The set of works that make Maria Inês Lourenço first solo exhibition summons the suspension and eternalization of moments from everyday life and personal experiences, imprinting them with a deeply intimate and sometimes enigmatic atmosphere. Génese marks the beginning of her artistic oeuvre but also suggests a return to her origins. Drawing on fragments of personal memories and the spaces she inhabits, Maria Inês Lourenço depicts the placidity of domestic environments. Her past and present experiences are captured in the candor of everyday details; in the empty moments of interior spaces that unfold in frames, mirrors, windows, and doors, invoking a prolonged contemplation in time full of assumptions about the diversity of representations therein; in the sense of waiting and the latent scrutinizing gaze in her figures and self-portraits. Transversal to the works presented here, familiarity and strangeness punctuate our own perception, sometimes through recognition of the scenes depicted, sometimes because we become voyeurs of experiences and memories that are not our own.
